Short description

Kill King Roman in the throne room

Description

The throne room. Roman.

And here, {name}, I can't bring myself to call him an enemy.

He was a good king. He held the border, judged by conscience, took taxes by the harvest and not by need. Twenty years without a single execution outside the law — under him the executioner never worked a day without a sentence. People lived steadily under him, and that's far rarer than heroics.

He had one weak place — Natalie. He loved her the way kings probably aren't allowed to.

When she took to her bed he tried everything that could be bought or prayed for. And when it was all spent, he was offered a bargain — and he agreed, knowing the price. He gave up the kingdom he'd spent twenty years raising, and took the curse himself so he could stay with her. He didn't run, didn't hide behind anyone — he sat down beside her and waited with her.

He's no villain, {name}. He chose one person over everyone else, and he won't step aside: stepping aside would mean leaving her alone.

Make it clean. He deserves to go as a king.

Keit listens in silence, without interrupting, and only at the end sits down on the throne room steps.

So. Hueu. One of the ancient ones, the sort people stopped naming before the kingdom existed.

He could have asked for anything, {name}. Health for himself, an army, an eternal throne — at that price they give a great deal. And he asked for one thing: cure her. And he was answered, word for word as asked. Nothing was agreed about her coming back as someone else.

He was a good king. He simply stopped being a king at some point and stayed a husband — and the rest of us paid for it.

And he understood it all at the end. Good that he did: it's a terrible thing to go without ever learning what for.

She stands and dusts off her knees.

It's done, {name}. The castle is ours. Go and rest, you've earned it. And lay those two side by side — it's what they wanted most.
